ANGLE
OF VIEW
[Film Technology]
[Film Technology]
Generally the
coverage of a lens, its horizontal
lens angle/ vertical lens angle (more
specifically, it is the angle subtended by the diagonal of the camera tube target at the emergence of the lens. The video camera lens
sees in 4:3 proportions. So its vertical angle of view
is three quarters of its horizontal angle of view.
The longer the focal length, the narrow the lens angle. Another name is field
of view. See camera lens. The field of view is determined by the focal length, which differs with each lens. The standard lens
or normal lens covers a field
of view which the human eye normally sees. With 35
mm cameras this is accepted by 50mm lens
and with 16 mm cameras the 25 mm lens is the equivalent with super 8 a focal length of 12
mm lens is normal. To produce greater interest in the scene lenses of
different focal length can be used, ranging
from a 1000 mm lens for a close-up of a distant football player, to a lens of
just a few mm focal length for a fish eye view,
including almost both ears of the camera operator. Field of view achieved with
different focal length lenses-distance between camera
and subject remaining the same. The camera sees
a rectangular portion of the scene, in 4-by-3
proportions. The viewer’s impressions derive from what they see in this restricted
area.
