ADJUSTABLE SHUTTER [Film Technology]

ADJUSTABLE SHUTTER
[Film Technology]

Some cameras have shutters that may be adjusted to give shorter exposure times either to reduce the exposure or to ensure a sharper picture of a fast moving object. Most adjustable shutters may only be reset while the camera is stationary but a few may be adjusted while the camera is running. This permits exposure to be altered in shot without affecting the lens characteristics [depth of field, zoom focal length setting etc.] or to create a fade or a mixin camera’ [fade in camera, mix in camera, in camera effects] when using a camera equipped with an adjustable shutter the cameraman or  camera assistant should always check the shutter opening is as required before use. When using a camera with shutter set below maximum it is a wise precaution or lens aperture ring to act as reminder that a difference must be allowed for when setting the exposure.
