BACKGROUND NOISE LEVEL [Film Technology]

BACKGROUND NOISE LEVEL
[Film Technology]

[Interference]. With any sound recording system there is an inherent background noise level; on magnetic Sound tracks this is caused by the oxide coating and on optical sound tracks by photographic grain particles. Background noise becomes more obvious when tracks are recorded at very low level. Recording at a very high level, on the other hand, can over modulate the tape, causing distortion and possible print through of the sound on to adjacent turns on the reel.
